ConnectPay launches Serdis, the core banking platform we built to run our own operations

ConnectPay has launched Serdis, an AWS-native core banking platform now available to European EMIs and financial institutions.

Serdis started as an internal project named “Mars”– built to eliminate our dependency on third-party core systems. In July 2025, it took over ConnectPay’s entire live operations: €14 billion in annual transaction volume, moved in a single weekend, with zero customer-visible downtime.

Now we’re making it available to the market.

Built by an operator, not a vendor

Most core banking systems are built by software providers who’ve never managed a safeguarding account or answered to a central bank. Serdis was built by a regulated EMI and tested under real operating conditions – which means compliance updates we build for ourselves get passed straight on to Serdis clients.

Serdis runs on a distributed microservices architecture on AWS EKS, with a tree-based General Ledger, real-time balances, automated IBAN lifecycle management, and FX and treasury engines. It supports native SEPA, SEPA Instant, and SWIFT MT/MX, with pre-integrated white-label web and mobile banking front-ends.

Proven through our own migration

The team ran Serdis in parallel with ConnectPay’s legacy provider for nine months before cutover, resolving reconciliation risks upfront rather than during deployment.

“Core banking is the single source of truth for every balance and transaction,” said Tadas Bakutis, CTO of ConnectPay and technical architect of the migration. “By designing, building, and migrating to this core ourselves, we proved a financial institution can reclaim its technical freedom without disrupting its users.”

Building toward a more independent industry

Around 70% of Tier 1 banks are still running on legacy core systems – a gap drawing closer regulatory attention as scrutiny of third-party infrastructure risk tightens under DORA.

“We want a European fintech ecosystem built on resilient infrastructure institutions actually own, rather than dependencies they rent,” said Galdikas, who also chairs the Lithuanian Fintech Association.
